12.01.2024 - Café 1930

Dana Bauer (oboe)

John Imholz (guitar)

Astor Piazzolla (March 11, 1921 - July 4, 1992) was an Argentinian bandoneon player, composer, and arranger. He created the Nuevo Tango style.

Dana Bauer and I recorded Piazzolla's Café 1930 this past summer. The piece was written with flute as the solo instrument, though it's been played in many different iterations. Café 1930 is one of four movements from Piazzolla's Histoire du Tango, published in 1986.
